He again indicates an upheaval in this thinking as he was forced to reach an unsavoury conclusion about pleasure, and in his restlessness turned to yet another source of satisfaction. It seems that as one door after another closed and denied him access to any meaning and purpose in life, his search became more and more pessimistic in its outlook.
But how few listen to wisdom’s advice. How many find it necessary to make the same mistakes all over again, because they are convinced that they can succeed where Solomon failed. It is so easy for the tempter to send us on a wild goose chase which consumes our innocence, our years and our happiness: all in the pursuit of pleasure.
