There is a time for every purpose and that time is set by God. It is he who works all things according the counsel of his will.
The object of God in putting a limit on us is to humble us. The sovereignty of God is a great rebuke to the self-determination of rebellious human beings. Man has such a small view of God, if he believes at all, that he imagines the Lord could not possibly anticipate his free acts. He thinks God could never call him to account for his sin, and that God has long since lost control of human rebellion. What great shock and consternation it will cause in man when he sees that the entire course of his rebellious history was known to God in advance, and that no twist or turn has been forgotten.
