Reflecting on the absence of justice under fallen man’s administration, Solomon comes to a deep conviction in his heart. He writes as a man who had come to the end of a great experiment with the world and now returned to God.
It is impossible that men and women can have peace in their hearts when they know that judgment awaits them in the future. We are so constructed that we cannot altogether drive the thought of these things out of our minds. When the day of reckoning comes, the past will be no comfort to the ungodly, indeed, the opposite is true.
