When God spoke to Adam in the garden of Eden, he warned him of the consequences of disobedience. Adam knew that in the day that he ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil he would surely die, and death would become the pattern for all human existence.
How foolish are those who pretend they can come to terms with death, and tame the king of terrors! The pangs which they feel in their hearts at the loss of loved ones and the terror that sometimes penetrates their dullness at the thought of their own death argue otherwise. They may deceive themselves to the very end but when they wake, they will see how great their error was. Let us learn from death as the great teacher that it is. Let us learn what sin has done to us and to our world, and look to the God who alone raises the dead for deliverance which he has promised to all who come to Christ.
