Ecclesiastes 3:8

Again, love and hatred, war and peace are opposites and the world in which each is appropriate looks very different. Nevertheless, life has such variety and brings about such changes that each of these opposites will in turn be set before us and we will be compelled to choose them as the right way to proceed. Solomon makes no comment about whether it is good or evil to respond to these times; he simply states that man will do so. There is a time to fall in love and the world seems transformed into a place of joy and happiness. There is a time to hate enemies who have done us great harm, or betrayed our deepest confidence. Life drags all these responses out of us whether we like it or not. Love and hatred are some of the strongest responses we can show to life and which one might have thought we must have the very best reason for expressing, and yet even these come almost automatically.There is a time when war is necessary and appears the only viable course of action we can take. There is another time when we understand that we must make peace and we have reversed our earlier judgment, yet not without good reason. Do we then decide which way we go? Yes, but we are not really free.
Application
We set out imaging we will succeed, gain and add to the world. Then discover we are not making any great contribution. I hope many do in education and skill, but as time goes by you realise it is not that big, will not change course of world. We are really quite limited. We are all just making the world go round. We raise families and help things go forward. Without God it is one big treadmill. You run for all worth and get off and you have not gone anywhere.
