Ecclesiastes 9:8

Go and enjoy the pleasures which all men share in common, God’s gracious gifts of life even in a fallen world. Care for the body, give attention to cleanliness, preserve your health, and adopt a pleasant appearance before your fellow human beings. Be faithful to one wife, and love her, and enjoy the fruits of married life. Yes, all these things are passing away, and you are going to the grave where none of these things can survive, but you have been redeemed: your life is hid with Christ in God, and God will raise your corrupt body from the dead and transform it into something glorious. You can accept these passing gifts as tokens of his love, because you know he will give you something more enduring and more wonderful in the future. Yes, you are still living under the sun at present, in common with those who believe that the sun is all there is over their heads, but you do not see things that way. By faith, you receive the promises of Scripture as true, and your hope is for the new heavens and the new earth. You are happy to live under God’s smile in this world, even though he requires you to experience the same vanity as the unbeliever for a time.
Application
How great a difference there is between the Christian and the non-Christian in outlook, and how great a difference there is between them in the sight of God. In many ways, both share the same life experiences, both have the same disappointments and sorrows, both have the same physical comforts, but what goes on in the heart is completely different. The believer has spiritual resources given him by God which life him up above the trials of life and enable him to count them as not worthy to be compared with what is waiting for him in the world to come. But the believer is steadily losing all that has any value to him, and he is losing his capacity to enjoy the little he has.
