The whole purpose is that we are called to ‘the praise of his glory’. We are called to be a heavenly choir and to praise God in every way that is before us in the eternal heavens.
How different from earth that will be! Here man is so proud. There is not a believer here in any church untroubled by pride. Even those with the most refined Christian graces and humility still battle against pride. Pride, the great curse of the human heart, it is everywhere. And in the world and outside people who are saved, it is stealing God’s glory all the time. What is the world about? What is the public media about? It is about the elevation of man, the praise of man, the glory of man ultimately. People live for esteem; they live for praise; they live for flattery. But there in the eternal glory, not one vestige of pride will remain on any of us. There God alone is glorious, and we will give all the glory to God and love him and marvel at his great goodness and grace.
Are there pursuits in heaven? We have very little information in the Scripture about pursuits in heaven. We have hints, just some hints, and we build on those and we think, well surely just as there are pursuits on earth, so there are pursuits in heaven. We read of Dr Henry Morris, the late Henry Morris, the scientist and great writer on creation and so on. We read of him harbouring the hope that we shall all be free to explore the galaxies and the wonders of the greater universe. Maybe, we do not know. Maybe there will be pursuits, but here is the key: any pursuit must be somehow part of the heavenly choir, things that fill the heart with wonder and praise for Almighty God, things that contribute to the great chorus and choir of worship and praise in eternal glory.
