This is what we need to advance with. Those Ephesians, they were going to come across a lot of difficulties.
We need to understand the hope of his calling more and more. The hope of his calling is that I shall grow in holiness. I want to prove the Lord in answered prayer and in my service for him and in my seeking of guidance. Even more, I need a glimpse regularly, frequently, of the glory of my inheritance in the saints. Billions of people will be seen in heaven; billions of trophies of grace, drawn from depravity and from sin by the mighty power of God. Why, the sound of praise will be as the sound of many waters. There will be oceans of love in a land of sinlessness and perfection and we shall see Christ and his majesty and purity and worship him from full hearts. Every tiny sacrifice we made will be wonderfully compensated and rewarded by the grace of God. Our intellects will be set free and soar and we shall understand things that we were never capable of grasping on earth and we shall have communion with the Lord himself and with so many others. Oh, to have a glimpse of the inheritance of the saints. These are wonderful things and the apostle Paul prays for the Ephesians, that they will know all these things more deeply and more wonderfully and be able to stand against all persecution and all attack – intellectual or physical.
