And the blood of Christ is at the heart of all this. What a contrast: at that time we were socially and morally separated, but now we are reconciled to God and to one another.
It is the blood of identification. God came down and identified with us. It is the blood of love and compassion. God shed his blood in human form for us. It is the blood of the new covenant. The old covenant was picture language; the sacrificial animal was slain, the blood was shed as a lesson of what would one day be accomplished when an atonement was made for sin, but the animal blood did not do anything. It was Christ’s blood, the blood of the new covenant, that was effective when Christ was slain for us. It is the blood of a new race. The glorified Christ would ascend into heaven and he would lead a new race of saved people, and the original plan of God would be restored. The people would occupy glory and heaven for ever. The blood of Christ is something very high and very special.
