Just as Christ washes and cleanses his bride, the church, to prepare her to be his wife, so ought men to love their wives. But now a new thought is introduced which further strengthens the obligation on husbands.
Some young husbands when they are recently married keep their strong ties with male friends; sometimes to the emotional exclusion of their wives. They mix with their buddies and their pals, almost forgetting they have got a lonely wife, holding up the wall in a corner somewhere, or left to scrabble around for someone to talk to. The husband’s vital interest and his first concern is to take care of his wife.
