Ephesians 5:7 Commentary and Bible Study

If we are partners with them in their sins, how can we avoid being partners with them in their punishment. As the sons of disobedience, they will suffer the consequences of disobedience and it should fill us with horror to be partners with those who are the enemies of God, who are heading for eternal damnation. This is the chief thing that marks us out from them: we are those who obey God and they are those who disobey. Our hope is based entirely in the shed blood of Christ and we have no righteousness of our own that could make us acceptable to God, nevertheless unless we are committed to righteousness and pledged to obtain holiness we cannot be saved. Our constant concern is to be making progress in holiness, and we are engaged in an unrelenting battle against sin. We may fall and may slip back, but our struggle is all in one direction, and when we fall we are filled with shame and hurry to repentance. We thank God for the provision made for sin, the propitiation of Jesus Christ, but the thought of being partners with the wicked fills us with horror that makes us want to disassociate from them in every possible way.
