Paul moves to these concluding remarks. Remember that he has spoken of prayer.
What are you like as a person? Do you have knowledge of other churches or do you have a village mentality? There is nothing wrong with villages, of course, but God’s work is bigger than just our local area. Spurgeon spoke of this: the newspapers will cure a village mentality. Villages have a downside: they may lead to small-mindedness, limited horizons. But the newspapers will tell you there is a world out there. In spiritual things we develop this. Sometimes we can get involved in gossip, small things, and we don’t follow the great issues of the kingdom of heaven. The methods of the world come in, and perhaps many churches are being affected. We must be concerned about the health and vigour of the churches as a whole, in matters beyond our locality. It is great when someone prays way beyond their own horizons. We need a broad outlook.
