Galatians 1:5
Comments
This is Paul’s worship. He expresses his praise for God in the highest terms. And who that understands what has been done could say any less? Paul desires all the Galatians to praise God in the same way, for if they had a proper understanding of the method of their salvation and a proper appreciation of God, they would never have fallen into the errors which they have begun to engulf them. All true praise is a response to God, to his revelation of himself to us. We cannot manufacture praise from within ourselves by conjuring up a God in our imagination, for such a God would be puny and made in the image of man. The true God is greater than we can imagine and our praise is a feeble attempt to do justice to a being that outstrips our mental capacity, even when taught by the Spirit. We have true knowledge of God but far from complete knowledge of God. He will be the object of unceasing worship for all eternity, and that worship will constantly discover fresh glories in the inexhaustible being of God.
