Galatians 3:29 Commentary and Bible Study

Paul never loses track of a theme once started until he has brought it to conclusion. In this intricately woven argument that has led him from one consideration to another, he now restates what he has proven to be true: that all Christians, both Jews and Gentiles are the seed of Abraham and included in the promises made to him. This chain of reasoning has brought Paul to the point where he can say that every Gentile believer participates in the true blessings of the Abrahamic covenant on exactly the same terms as a believing Jew. The Gentiles are not second class members of the covenant of grace, but are just as much in Christ as any believing Jew. They are therefore heirs along with Abraham for they too must be regarded as Abraham’s seed. This purpose of God was hidden for many ages, but in hindsight it could be seen clearly, right from the beginning, in the terms of the original promise. But the call of the Gentiles had to wait until Christ had come and brought to an end the period of God’s dealings with the Jews. Now that Christ has come, these hidden purposes have been brought out into the open and the gospel has been preached in all the world, beginning at Jerusalem.
