‘Brethren’, again he affirms his love and speaks as a member of the same family, the family of God. This is always necessary when we have hard things to say in correction of other believers, for correction is so much more effective when it is delivered in the atmosphere of love and commitment to each other.
He does not drive them away with unnecessarily harsh words but seeks to win them, and, no matter how foolish we have been, there is no time that we do not need the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we have sinned and brought trouble on ourselves, then we still need grace. Let us then come to God for forgiveness when we sin and not punish ourselves overmuch when he is happy to receive us again as his returning children. He knows that we will always need grace.
