Genesis 11:10 Commentary and Bible Study

The years passed, and from verse 10 we see all the different families, and then in verse 27 we are introduced to Terah, and Terah was the father of Abram. We read, ‘these are the generations of Shem’, and just for a moment we are going to follow the godly line. What became of it? You read, in due course, about Terah. A few generations on from Shem in the godly line is Terah. They were living in Ur of Chaldees, the record tells us. However we learn in Joshua 24:2 that Terah was an idolater, and they served other gods. He's a worshipper of the sun and the moon and the stars. What's happened? Even the godly line has deteriorated. It's been affected by all the world, and it's become corrupted. They were supposed to be the godly seed, and they had lost their faith, and they were in idolatrous country and they were worshipping idols. The British Museum has a room which shows the worship to the Moon god that would have been practiced by those in the city of Ur.
