Genesis 13:11

We see how good was the plain of Jordan. Lot chose that for himself and moved away with his flocks and herds from Abram. Abram however dwelt in the land of Canaan in the more mountainous region, the less productive and less prosperous region, but he trusted God. Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. That was where he was going to move to, at length. It held no fear for him, it seems; it should have done. The men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. Lot thought he could handle it. He thought he could make money there, gain office, be significant there, live-in a proper stone, or brick and mortar house there, not a tent.
Application
This is going on today, even in the churches of Christ. Churches of Christ think they can borrow the music genre of the world, the ways of the world, behave as the world behaves, bring it into worship, use worldly gimmicks as their methods of outreach. They think they can associate with the world and become part worldlings without it taking them over, but they cannot, and Lot is an example of this. He did not have sufficient fear of Sodom and the cities of the plain. Wealth had already gripped his soul, and now the culture of the cities of the plain was going to do also. You have this lesson even back here in the book of Genesis.
