Genesis 16:4
Comments
The wrong policy, the forbidden and ungodly method, the method devised and employed by the fallen culture around them, actually worked or seems to work initially. ‘He went in unto Hagar, and she conceived’. We have the seed; we have the promise of God; we have helped it along and it can now be fulfilled. ‘And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.’ That was so predictable. Abram a godly man, a holy man, a man of tremendous reserves of wisdom, should have seen it. It is so obvious that this lass is going to despise her mistress, hold her in contempt, belittle her, see her as small, insignificant, nothing, possibly even taunt her.
Application
We know people who adopt all these worldly methods in their churches, and they get lots of people come in, and it works. Oh no, it only seems to work. It will not work for long; there will be a heavy price to pay, and the Spirit of God withdraws from the church and there is a long silence. People can fool themselves.
