We see here the tremendous hold sin can still have over us. By next morning nothing has happened.
God makes a way of escape and we ignore it. It is a very solemn matter not to respond to God’s warning. That warning was the only message that could have helped us, a faithful message which might have been omitted, but which in kindness God afforded to us. Nevertheless, we ignored it or we did not take it seriously. How many more times does God need to speak to us? How many more times will God speak to us? Perhaps this is the last. His warnings have to be acted on immediately.
God comes to the unbeliever and says, ‘You have to be judged; your life is a delusion. Come to me for forgiveness. I have done everything necessary to deliver you from sin. Repent and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour.’ God may stop pleading with us. Our circumstances may change to prevent us ever having the opportunity to hear the gospel again. Will we still be dithering in six months’ time? Lot trembled probably, and yet he did not move.
