Lot sat in the gate where he could view visitors coming into the city. He is a magistrate, but the city is vile; he has no moral influence in the city.
That is the kind of delusion we get into. OK, you will do well in life; you will get on in the world. But what matters is spiritual riches. Some become very rich in this life, but do not have twopence halfpenny to rub together. Some go for influence, but they will have no clout at the gate of heaven. It is possible to have a lot of influence over others, but none where it counts, not even of themselves. Some think they are secure and happy but it is a fragile security which God can remove in a moment.
