‘Lot pressed upon them greatly to stay with him.’ Why was he so anxious? Well, he knew the city, and he knew its sin, and he knew what might happen. So he is very anxious these dignified visitors would be in his house. He knows the danger these two men will put themselves in if they do as they propose. So they enter into his house as they had always intended to do. Although even he appears to be taken by surprise by how things turn out, he knows the general wicked state of the citizens. He shows himself to be a good host and attends to their every need. He made them a feast.
