Rebekah looks up and sees an unknown man coming towards them, aware presumably that they are approaching their destination and so this is likely to be a member of Isaac’s household. She dismounts because the servant has told her that this is Isaac himself. She dismounts and not surprisingly veils her face. The covering of a wife-to-be with a veil was a token of modesty which was part of the care with which marital relations were conducted in those days.Isaac and Rebekah were to spend a long lifetime together and it was sufficient for them that the Lord had led them together. No further test of their compatibility was needed for this was a marriage arranged by the Lord. For these two people it was a matter of faith, as was everything else in their lives.
