The servant relates to Isaac all the wonderful detail of the Lord’s guidance. It is undeniable that Rebekah is the wife of God’s choice.
Isaac was 40 years old when Rebekah became his wife. Some panic if they are still unmarried when they are over 22, but Isaac was not panicking. Any sense of panic must be countered with faith. The Lord knows what his will is for our lives, whether we should marry or not. If so, he has a chosen person for us and he makes no mistakes. Care is the watchword. Believe that there is a partner from the Lord, and be ready to be devoted to one another. It is plain to Isaac that this is of the Lord. Another step in the fulfilment of the promise to Abraham has been taken.
Ephesians 5:32 teaches that marriage is a picture of Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:25 tells us that the basis of this relationship is love. Marriage comes about because of love; it must be present. Consider Christ and his church. When we are saved, Christ comes out to us, seeks us, touches our hearts, but we were not inclined to him at first. He must draw us to himself. There is a place therefore for young men and women doing something to seek a partner. We are not to panic, but that does not mean we have nothing to do. You want to seek the Lord’s chosen partner for you, but be very careful in the way you go about it. There is a balance between being guided by the Lord and taking the necessary steps to find a spouse.
