Rebekah carries out her plan of deception. She might have considered that all she was doing would come out into the open. Was she really prepared for that? Was she prepared to be known to her husband after so many years of married life together as the one who had tricked him into blessing the wrong son? Would he forgive her for this? We can only assume that every objection to her plan that arose in her mind was swept aside by the pre-birth oracle. She ought rather to have concluded that if the blessing of the wrong child could not be stopped by any other means than her act of trickery, that it was not God’s will that she should intervene; he would find another way to bring Jacob.
