Despite his various tests, Isaac did not discern that it was Jacob before him, and so proceeded to bless Jacob, thinking it was Esau. He is ready now to eat the game prepared for him, which will be his own arranged prelude to the blessing.
This is an entirely personal attraction. Isaac allowed this personal preference to set aside God’s choice of Jacob revealed to Rebekah when the children were still in the womb. Such things should not influence the hearts of believers in their relationships with one another, for they must rather allow their affections to be guided by the Lord. We are to love one another as fellow believers for what the Lord has made us and we are to overlook any personal characteristics which might appear less attractive to us naturally. Very unusually, the election of God had been revealed to Isaac before the twins were even born, so that even before Jacob came to faith, Isaac knew the Lord’s choice. Knowing this, he ought to have submitted to that choice.
