But notice the blessing which he gave him: it is a very strange one. It is not the full blessing.
Isaac really believed that he had got away with it. He really believed that he had thwarted the divine oracle and succeeded in securing the blessing of God for the son of his choice. How foolish of any believer to think they can outmanoeuvre the Lord. How sad that they should want to do so. It was partly because of his intransigence in this matter that God allowed anything as unpleasant and devious as Jacob’s act of deception to occur.
