We must read God’s favour not in our earthly status, but in the promises of his word, for many of us have to go through times when our circumstances seem to argue strongly against having the God of all power with us. Jacob was from a great family, but he had travelled all alone and with few possessions, and he was going to have to serve Laban for many years. The believer may be of no consequence in the eyes of the world, but in God’s sight he is destined for glory.
