Genesis 3:20
Comments
This was not necessarily done then and there. Some people think he called her Eve much earlier, but the record does not call her Eve until now. Some think he called his wife’s name Eve once she had conceived and gave birth, somewhere into chapter 4. But whether that is true or not, the record certainly belongs here. ‘Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.’ In spite of the death sentence being pronounced on both of them, God had not taken away the power of human nature to reproduce, and Adam saw that the whole human race would come from Eve. This verse has been connected with Genesis 3:15, without which connection it seems out of place. Their hope lay in the future and the promised turned their thoughts to the seed that would come from them through whom they hoped to find deliverance.
