At this point God speaks to Jacob and gives him a very clear indication that it is time to return. He had come to seek a wife, and he now had a family and he had some wealth.
God will never abandon any of his true children, and even though our lives go in a direction we would never have predicted or desired, and even though at times we bring troubles upon ourselves by our foolishness, he remains faithful. Jacob is going to be the father of the nation of Israel, and his sons are going to be heads of the twelve tribes. His situation looks precarious at the moment, but God will be with him.
