Jacob sends word ahead to Esau. He shows he is willing to pay for his re-entry and makes a peace offering.
This is not a parable but history. It literally happened, and yet it is remarkable. It is echoed by our own experience. The unconverted person is like someone away from home. In seeking to find God he is coming back to his home like Jacob. There are many parallels. Esau was his enemy. We too have an enemy – guilt. How can we go to God? We must presume on the fact that he will be kind to us? He must punish sin, but he calls people to seek him out.
