Esau then makes a further proposal. He suggests they travel together, or not far apart: Esau will go ahead and Jacob will come close behind him at roughly the same speed.
There are some we have to deal with in this world who are extremely sensitive. Unless they are spoken to in the most submissive manner, they are likely to take offence. They are capable of reading disrespect or hostility into what is said to them on a very sleight basis, indeed they can very easily misread what they hear. We should not use flattery as a tool for dealing with them, but we are wise to be very careful with what we say, and to double check all our speech in case it contains within it something that will cause a reaction. The Christian is to strive to live peaceably with all men and women, even the oversensitive.
