Reuben is the oldest of the brothers. He feels that he has to save his life, and he is going to suggest something else, and then come back a little later and rescue the boy.
Reuben’s suggestion has no murder involved, but it is still deeply cruel to Joseph. This finds a parallel among Christians. They may slay one another verbally behind each other’s back, and then come to the Lord’s house and even the Lord’s table as if they had done nothing.
