Then he dreams yet another dream. Only two are recorded, but the plurals in the language suggest that there were actually other dreams, only two of which we are let into.
We need such courage in witness, for we cannot do it for very long without experiencing the rejection and scorn of the world. Do we need to develop a thick skin to keep going? That would not be the right way to put it, for witness cannot be carried out without deep sympathy. It is sympathy that drives us and to do it with our emotions switched off will not work. But we learn to care less about the opinions of men, for we remember they do not know God. We learn to pity those who do not pity themselves, and to plead for those who do not plead for their own souls. We disregard their own unbelieving response to the gospel as something which comes from their spiritual blindness, and is not worthy to be taken into account.
