Lamech’s second wife, Zillah, bore Tubalcain, meaning of the family of Cain or of the flowing forth of Cain. His sister was also a person of significance in order to be mentioned, and her name was Naamah [pleasant]. Tubalcain is thought to probably be the individual behind the Roman mythical god of fire, Vulcan, who was god over the fire of volcanoes, metalworking and the forge. He learnt to extract iron, and copper, bronze being an alloy of mainly of copper with tin or other metals mixed with it. This discovery was, according to Genesis, made very early in human history and gave mankind a significant advance in constructing vessels, tools, and weapons. Secular archaeology wants to put the bronze age before the iron age, but the Bible says that the technology to extract both iron and copper or bronze was developed at the same time.
