Strangely enough the prison gave Joseph many interesting experiences. Not only did he meet criminals but, because it was the prison which served Pharaoh’s household, he met many high-ranking officials who had fallen from favour.
God is moving these men around as he pleases and for doing so for Joseph’s sake. What is their high rank to him; God will make high and low the servants of his people and of his church. This is out of sight for those who do not know God, who think the world revolves around them. Heaven will reveal that it was very different to what they imagined. What Pharoah thought was a whim of his own is working to bring about changes in his kingdom which he is not yet aware of, but for which he will be thankful. Joseph Hall elegantly says, ‘Pharaoh's officers are sent to witness his graces, which he may not come forth to show.’
