Seeing the favourable interpretation the butler has received, the baker also takes courage and comes forward. His dream is again related to his former service.
Joseph is quite young. Here is this poor man who is going to lose his life, and Joseph sees the interpretation. Was he be tempted to say, ‘I can’t tell him that. I will tell him, “In three days Pharoah will let you out”’? If the butler’s interpretation had not been favourable, the baker would not have related his dream. There is here an obvious study of human nature. If preachers only tell good things, favourable things, then they may attract many hearers, but they will do their hearers no good. The evangelist has to speak about sin and repentance as well as the blessing of the kingdom. A gospel which only presents the benefits of being a Christian will draw many into the kingdom without their coming through the narrow gate. So, the charismatics only handout benefits, like sweets and lollipops. ‘If you become a Christian, you will have a good time; all your troubles will be taken away.’ The true disciple must count the cost of discipleship.
