When Pharaoh flatters him, Joseph turns any glory away and gives glory to God instead. This is very different from the way some modern preachers behave, parading their gifts before men, and lapping up attention. It is amazing to see the blatant arrogance with which Charismatics promote their gifts. Surely many will hear those terrible words on the last day, ‘I never knew you.’ We must fear every suggestion that we deserve credit for even the best of what we do for the Lord. The one who is in a position of prominence needs to be constantly examining himself and cutting off any tendency to admire himself. The same should happen when we receive praise from others. We bring to mind all our sins which they do not know about, all the things that God sees which men do not see, and our comeliness turns in us to corruption (Daniel 10:8).Joseph tells Pharaoh the dream has a good meaning, for he is to receive an answer of peace, and that will come from God. The dream has not come to pronounce condemnation but deliverance.
