Genesis 42:5

Many were coming to Egypt to buy corn. Put out of mind Joseph as a storeman. He was the supreme governor in the land. He didn’t meet everyone who came. Probably, he only dealt with significant visitors, or those who looked hostile. But he might well have been expecting his family to come for relief, and it is likely that he had told his staff to look out for them. His own family is in a desperate plight. The narrative is brief, but he is made aware that they have come and summons them. They bow with their faces to the ground. Now that is significant, and he would have taken note of it immediately.
Application
The word of God does not fail, however long it takes to come to pass. He had done nothing; God had done it all, and here they were in front of him with their faces to the ground. Contrast that with the scorn they showed towards him when he first told them his dream. How easily God is able to bring his word to pass, and to humble the most obdurate! But the prophecy now told him there was something for him to do. He had not been put in this position of governor for nothing. The irony was that it was his brothers’ action which had helped to put him in this position. While they had done their best to harm him, God had turned their malice into a vital step in his plan. Those who fight against God only do themselves an injury.
