Judah now speaks for all and takes the lead. He has to speak plainly to his father.
Though Joseph loved his brothers and was leading them to a loving and kind outcome, it did not stop him expressing himself with solemn words that laid on them strict conditions. Parents warn their children and threaten with punishment even though they love them. Love is not always soft. Christ, in dealing with a soul, may use great threats and a great sense of danger to subdue us to himself, but his goal is surrounded by love.
