Pharoah himself intervenes and adds his seal to Joseph’s benevolence to his family. He commands Joseph himself to speak words of blessing to them in the name of Pharoah.
Joseph ladens them with gifts for the journey. Christ ladens us with spiritual gifts and comforts as his adopted children. Joseph works at the commandment of Pharoah. Christ comes into the world to carry out the commission given him by the Father. Joseph has the unlimited resources of Egypt with which to bless his family; Christ is the one ‘in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.’
Benjamin is given more than all the others, being the brother who Joseph especially loves. Christ is free to bless each one of us as he pleases, and all jealousies and rivalries must be put away – ‘Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?’ (Matthew 20:15).
