Zebulun means ‘dwelling’, ‘wished-for habitation’: ‘he shall dwell at the haven of the sea.’ This description puzzles people, because it is not clear that Zebulun extended as far east as Galilee and as far west as the Mediterranean.
If we live quietly – in the worst sense – with no great aims, then eventually we will be absorbed into the world. So he is a warning not to be preoccupied with riches. The church also has to go into the world and preach the gospel, but it must take care not to be affected by mixing with them.
