‘These are the generations of Noah.’ Again we have Moses’ signpost phrase marking out the start of a new section of the book, a new heading in the unfolding record of Genesis.
Do we hate double dealing and falsehood? Do we say the right thing to other believers, and then cheat on the Lord? Are we ready to be different from those around us? This will naturally attract their attention and we will suffer persecution at some level for our stance, because it cannot help but be noticed by those we live amongst. Noah was ready to be different and he was ready to reprove the world, for he was a preacher of righteousness. He no doubt face ridicule because of his God-given project to build the ark, but he was not ashamed of God’s word or the instruction he had been given by the Lord.
In days when true Christians are such a minority, it is common for the believer to find he is the only one in his family, in his class, or in his office who loves the Lord. We cope with this situation by walking with the Lord. We keep our eye fixed on his standards not on those around us who ignore his word. Are we ready to be different for the Lord? God has his own secret comforts and assurances to give to his faithful people, which compensate for all their losses and hardships.
