The entire episode, from the first coming of the waters from below and from above, from the very beginning of the flood to the end of it all, when Noah would set foot on land and the earth was dry, was actually more than one hundred and fifty days; that was the time after which the waters began to recede. The details are disputed. Some analyse the account to say it was a year before they left the ark, others a year and ten days, others a year and twenty years, depending on how they understand the details of the dates and the months, and whether it was a lunar year or a calendar year that the record speaks about. It was around the point of a year, from the beginning to the very end of it. The mountains now called Ararat are within the borders of modern Turkey, on the far eastern side of the country, and visible from neighbouring Armenia in the city of Yerevan. How wonderful it must have been to see the peaks of other mountains starting to appear and know that all this was evidence that God had not forgotten them.
