Hebrews 10:39

But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition, or in this case judgement, but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. This is the hallmark of true conversion and true faith. Number one: that we have an abiding conscientious concern about sin, with daily self-examination and with a burden to improve. And number two: that we are committed to him and we keep our first love and our first priorities, and our lives are first and foremost for him. This is the hallmark of true conversion.
Application
In backsliding, we may lose these things temperately. If you have lost them all together, well, may there be such a work in your life that you come before God with deep concern, praying for conversion, praying for true union with him. But if you are a Christian man or a Christian woman, then show the hallmark: live for him and you will be rewarded. There were three reward promises in these verses. They apply not only to heaven, but to the blessings you will get now: the assurance, the instrumentality, the communion with God. Show the hallmark and these things will be yours.
