This is a precious example of faith, the faith of the parents of Moses. The cruellest Pharaoh of all came to rule Egypt, and he determined that all the baby hebrew boys should be killed.
The same is true when we come to Christ. We cannot give ourselves new lives; we cannot award ourselves heaven; we cannot secure the forgiveness of our sins, but we do the feeble thing that we can. We repent and we trust in the Lord, and it was like that with Moses parents; it was almost a reflection of saving faith. They knew the child was destined by God for some great future, and they did as much as they could, even though they knew it was totally inadequate. They made an ark and God took care of the rest, and that is how faith works in the Christian life. You have got great anxieties, great needs, great desires, you trust yourself to the Lord. You trust in the Saviour who died for you and made you his child. You trust that he is with you that he will never let you down. Your prayers may not be answered quite as you would like, but the purposes of God will be unfolded in his time in your life. That is why the example of Moses’ parents is brought before us. Faith is given to you at conversion, and you begin to exercise it. Faith brings you to understand the word of God, and you obey it, and in the days ahead no matter what your circumstances you act on it. Sometimes we find ourselves judging according to earthly wisdom, but when God brings us to recognise this, then like Isaac we tremble deeply and repent of what we have done and act in accordance with the rules and standards of Scripture.
