Genesis teaches us that God created the worlds, the earth, the sun and moon, and the stars, and all created things, out of nothing. He spoke them into existence when he alone existed.
It is possible to know this is a created world through natural reasoning, but not to understand it deeply so that we are humbled, even afraid, and seek our Creator. Faith believes, and when you do believe, how much sense it makes. We look around and see it confirmed a thousand ways.
From ancient times people have struggled to reject creation. The ancients chose to believe that matter is eternal, and that God emerged from matter. Nowadays we have pretty much the same idea: the Big Bang. You shrink the universe to almost nothing, but still there is something there. That is the root of all our problems – no God no moral standards. You can acknowledge a Creator without God, but not very deeply.
