Those who question the legitimacy of Israel’s conquest of Canaan should remember that this initial battle against Jericho was won without the use of weapons. It was a supernatural act of God and it put his stamp of approval on the occupation of the land.
We too have to experience the wonders we have seen, what we have been enabled to accomplish for the Lord. We must spend less time thinking about what has gone wrong. There would have been no excuse for not trusting. And surely we can trust God as his people. In Hebrews 11 every example of faith leading to a great blessing was something for God not for the individual.
If God tells us to live according to a certain lifestyle then he will be with us. Today some cannot trust God and his methods. They say ‘We need music, a dazzling demonstration of sophistication to impress the unbelievers.’ Someone says, ‘We must have a Young People’s Fellowship – nice young men to attract nice young women, and camps. We need to create a happy atmosphere with happy relationships, and then people are more likely to accept the message.’ The devil is active to get us to show our lack of faith by depending on human schemes.
We have many battles to fight for the Lord, but conversion is entirely by the power of God. In all we do – our work is nothing compared to God’s. We witness, we teach, we visit, but it is nothing compared to the part God reserves for himself. He alone brings the soul under conviction, grants repentance and faith, and brings to new life.
