We depend on Jesus Christ. We look to him for salvation of course; we trust only in his atoning death.
All this he would turn to good account, so much the more readily bringing conviction into the hearts of his abusers and insulters. As we look at Calvary this is how Christ uses his shame and we say, ‘Look how far my Saviour was ready to go for me. Even his humiliation speaks, and the inspired author calls our attention to this. If you come into disadvantage through some degree of humiliation or scorn, what do you say to yourself? ‘This is passing. This is for this life only; none of this can obstruct my testimony. In fact, it can only enhance it, because God can use this and make people ashamed of what they have done.
Is it conceivable that he would pay such a price for us, and then be willing to just let us be lost along the journey? This statement is to encourage us. When you consider all that he did and the price paid, you may be sure that he will see you through. This does not absolve us from making the effort and running the race, but we are in his hands.
