The Greek word ‘refuse’ is compound word meaning to beg away. See that you do not beg Christ to go away, stop your ears, blot out the knowledge of Christ, keep clear from it, because that is to insult Christ, that is to offend him so deeply.
Is there somebody here, and you do not want to think about the blood of Christ? You do not want to think about Christ who came and offered himself up as a sacrifice. Maybe you are too proud for that - what a terrible thought! You would rather work your own passage to heaven than have an atonement made for you. Maybe you just do not want God at all. You are not interested in Christ speaking by the shedding of his blood, and showing you what he has done for sinners. Take it away. I have got other things to think about. Make sure you do not beg the blood of Christ to go away when it is shown to you, because that will bring terrible judgement. It is bad enough to be on your dying day at the foot of Mount Sinai, and see God in all his unapproachability and terror, and to come under judgement because you have disobeyed his law. But somehow it is even worse, if you have refused the pleading blood of Christ, the gentlest message imaginable, presented to you at such cost.
Do not go in for too many distractions; when we are young the main problem is distractions. There are so many things to do. There are so many recreational and leisure activities and some of those things are valid and important, but we can help ourselves to far too much. People can have too many material things going on at the same time, and they are totally distracted by everything that is happening and do not consider how they are living.
Some teachers focus only on doctrine. In a sense, who can criticise that; the doctrines of God the teaching of the Scripture is so important. Yes, but some people focus on these things alone and there is no exhortation in their ministry. There is no application there is no stirring of hearts and we need it all the time, constantly. We need great views of Christ; we need to understand and learn the rich doctrines of the faith, but we also need to be cautioned and encouraged too. In some churches it is all worship and very often the wrong kind of worship. It is more like entertainment, but it is worship, worship, worship. There is no challenge, no reproof, no help. How do we become better people? What are the impediments? What are the helps for improving in each area of righteousness? ‘See that ye refuse not him that speaketh.’
