For our sake Christ ‘became obedient unto death’ (Philippians 2:8) and God ‘made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin’ (2 Corinthians 5:21). He took on himself the guilt of our sins and the shame associated with that sin.
Did his love go this far for us? Yes. The Son of God who had only ever been praised by his holy angels and enjoyed their constant worship and adoration, now took the place of the lowest and most outcast reprobate, not fit to be in the presence of society. How could he go from such heights to such depths? What did that cost him? Grace is a word which needs to be filled with content. By meditating on what Christ was prepared to do which was so much at odds with his glory, we may begin to enter into his grace.
